About Home Cost Signal

Cost planning that shows its work.

Home Cost Signal helps US homeowners build an informed budget before requesting contractor bids.

Who we are

Home Cost Signal is an independent home-project planning service for US homeowners.

How estimates work

The current product provides ten live calculators covering roofing, HVAC, bathroom and kitchen remodeling, flooring, interior and exterior painting, windows, water heaters, and rooftop solar. Each calculator combines supported project details with documented national product or equipment baselines, official state trade-labor data where applicable, and explicit model assumptions to show low, typical, and high planning ranges.

Why the service exists

It helps homeowners form a budget, understand cost drivers, and compare project scope before requesting contractor quotes.

Why estimates are ranges

Measurements, equipment specifications, access, crew availability, local code, permits, weather, and conditions discovered during inspection all affect a real bid. A range makes that uncertainty visible instead of presenting false precision.

Sources and versions

Production sources, documented assumptions, product or equipment observations, and secondary validation references have distinct roles. Model and data versions appear with the result so a homeowner can see when the estimate method and supporting data were updated.
